dark daze

Jalen has been in a real crappy mood these past few days. I'd like to blame it on either teething, a growth spurt, separation anxiety or some sort of heightened awareness overload (I made that one up). He's been waking up at night, crying and refusing to go back to sleep unless held or sometimes fed. On top of that, he's been refusing to take his naps during the day even though he's exhausted. His eyes get so dark and heavy, he looks like a little zombie. Jalen is much more expressive these days, so he'll babble and shriek when he's happy and exhibits displeasure with grunts, groans and cries. Crying comes in different degrees, from a mild complaining to an all out Godzilla-in-pain type of cry. He saves the Godzilla screams for Eumi and me, which happen mostly in the evenings. The other night was probably the first time he ever gave out a cry for help. He got his ankle stuck in between the slats of his crib and was twisted in a way that had him pinned down. I got him out and cradled him in my arms to calm him down and try to get him back to sleep. He gave me this look like I was his hero because I just saved his life. Poor kid, I can't wait until he gets over whatever this is and sleeps through the night again because really it's poor us.
